‘Kshitij ---youth fest’

The regional youth festival

Mumbai region 2009

K.V.3colaba hosted ‘kshitij the youth fest’ on 25.11.09 for the students of classes ix and xi -the regional youth festival initiated by KVS under the AEP advocated by MHRD 200 students and teachers from the ten Kendriya Vidyalayas of the Mumbai region participated in the festival. The teams registered themselves at 7.15 am enthusiastically for the day, perhaps with a silent prayer and a hope to be the winner.

Brig. Bobby Mathew Commander, Mumbai sub area inaugurated the festival by lighting the lamp and students worshipped the mother India “hum kare rashtra aradhan”.

Brig Mathew gave three mantras to the youth ….

·         The times have changed, the Avenues opened for the youth are plenty and hence each one should identify their talent and aptitude and choose the line as each individual is born with distinct capalabilities and No two individuals are the same, each individual is born with distinct innate abilities.

·         He said that one should do what one likes and not what others tell us to become, that is  have your own individualities

·         He also insisted to “BE PROUD OF BEING AN INDIAN and NOT APE THE WEST”, We Indians have good values and we should learn good things from others but not forget our own culture.

The theme of the fest   challenges of adolescence --- let’s empower them with the information and skills’ was reflected in a befitting manner by all the competitions.

 The competitions commenced with a brawl between the participants over the topic

No money; No honey...to have a steady friend is a high maintenance issue!!!

Each one promoted their point with great conviction and confidence making it tough for the judges. The students in favour quoted the friendship of Krishna and sudama and Karna and Duryodhana from Mahabharata, while those who felt that money is a must for the honey went on to say that sudama was a friend of Krishna because Krishna was rich and enforced upon the need of money in a relationship…

Students tried their artististic hand at making posters by the mode of cartoons and at the end of the competitions the art gallery was full of enriching and colorful way of saying

“HIV/AIDS --Spread the word not the disease”.

The participants in the essay writing competition displayed their thoughtfulness and language by saying that

“It is a challenge to attain the status of the “ideal youth” ---since one has to overcome all the challenges to reach the pinnacles of success in all walks of life.

The stories told by the students displayed their narrative abilities on the themes of Growing up healthy; each anecdote was more engrossing and convincing than the other.

Motivational songs sung by the participants intermittently in unison were pleasing to the ears as well as helped uphold the atmosphere festive. The display of aerobic dance on the tunes of “shri Ganesha panchratnam and Ganesha Panchakam” was welcomed by one and all and it was a pleasant feast to the eyes to watch 160 students and 40 teachers dance to the tunes of the “Ganesha Stuti”, the onlookers as well as the dancers all were benefitted as it was loosening of muscles for all be it body or just the eyes.  

The health mela was also a big draw which displayed the culinary art of the participants by the “Chutneyfication of the fast food and nutrition….go green. The stalls were well decked up by the nutritive yet lip smacking fast food. The carving of vegetables done by the participants on the spot and the display of tables were amazing, those who did not participate enjoyed eating and the whole set up added to the festive mood of the day. The nutritious

Spinach Kathi roll bagged the first prize for its taste, table decoration and its nutritive value.

The young lot also displayed their understanding of the pressures of the society and also came out with  positive solutions by the mode of their acting talent in the role play competition on the theme of samaj ki kathorta yuva pidhi ko apne jeevan ki ahuti dene ko vivash kar rahi hai. Each school participated with full vigour and the play modernized drama of the great playwright “Badal Sarkar” “Pagla Ghoda was a great hit with the crowd as well as the judges and won the first position.

The on the spot display by the guest participants of mimicry, journalism and a song were all great hit in the crowd.

As all good things come to an end, and thus the festival culminated with the attractive prizes given to the winners of each event and mementos to all participants (the students as well as teachers) by the judges, principal and vice principal of k.v.no.3 Colaba.

The judges who encouraged the participants through out the day patiently and with great interest were eminent educationists namely---

  • Mrs.Mintoo Sinha principal BTTC  Mumbai,
  • Mrs.Vipinjyot Sahadeva, Principal army public school,
  • Mrs. Sunita Rao army public school.

The smooth conduct of the festival was ensured by Ms Megha Gupta class X and Ms Anita class X guided by Ms.Jaya salve P.G.T English and Ms Kunti Kumari T.G.T Hindi.

The key members of AEP –Ms.Shephali T.G.T Science, Ms.Swati Kulkarni T.G.T science, Ms.Vandana Mishra T.G.T English, and Ms.Rupa Sidhu primary teacher were the driving forces of the fest genuinely motivated and inspired by the organiser of the festival Principal K.V.no.3colaba Ms.Geeta Balagangadharan.

The team work of the entire staff of k.v.no.3colaba and the volunteer students from classes IX AND XI made the fest a wholesome fun filled experience to one and all, celebrating the “youth” in the true spirit!!!
